(Eli)sabeth Weaver is a visual artist, musician, youth worker, arts educator and organizer. Since she founded ArtScape Designs in 2004, Weaver has facilitated and painted eight community based murals from Philadelphia, PA to Holyoke, MA with diverse communities. Weaver’s early experiences as a muralist with Philadelphia’s renowned Mural Arts Program led her to co-found the Holyoke Mural Arts Project, a program to engage youth in conflict resolution through mural art. While earning her Bachelor’s of Art in 2003 at Hampshire College she wrote a groundbreaking thesis; The Art of Change; A Comparative Study of Effective Styles in Organizing Using Art for Social and Political Change.
A Recipient of the Alumni Fellowship from Community Partnerships for Social Change of Hampshire College, she coordinated reciprocal arts and social change programming for youth and adults between the college and local cities. As a certified Help Increase the Peace Conflict Resolution Trainer she co-facilitates intensive anti-oppression workshops and youth leadership trainings.
A member of the political theater troupe Liberty Cabbage Theatre Revival, she co-wrote the multimedia performance, Oiligarchy, which toured nationally. Weaver currently writes and performs music with her sister in their band Root and Wing. They released their first full-length album, Finding Ground in 2006. She has been showing her series, “I Am From: An Architecture of Memory” linocut block prints and watercolors in galleries and bookstores.
Weaver is based in her hometown Lancaster, PA and working on projects abroad. She continues her efforts with community-based organizations striving toward social justice, and additionally enjoys gardening, making art and riding her bike.
