Still I Rise Mural Project
Inner City Group and Weed and Seed
Lancaster, PA - Summer 2005

I facilitated this mural with local neighborhood youth in South East Lancaster, PA with funding from the Inner City Group and Weed and Seed Program in Summer 2005 at Crispus Attucks Community Center. Over one month, meeting everyday of the week in the heat, I trained 7 young people with an interest in art to design this mural, which represents healthy communities. The images in the design are most all created by the youth artists whom I assisted in working together in unison, color and vision. The poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou came as inspiration to the youth in a group brainstorm. It eventually became a message woven through the entire mural. The mural is 80-feet long by 6-feet high stretching across a public throughway, parking lot and sitting garden.
